Quotes from Young people on the project

The purpose of the HP is to make everyone happy. It can help us as young people to get our own home, to have a place to stay safe
HP is one of the best projects I've ever been to, with lovely facilitators and lovely members of the group. We are very proud of it

It has kind of given me a purpose and it shows someone cares and that I'm not chucked in and left in the deep end

The HP gives us another option and helps us as young people to be more independent
I'm looking forward to moving my furniture in and making it my home
It feels like my life is starting a new chapter and I'm very excited about it

Their collective views and ideas drive the development of all House Projects through the Care Leavers National Movement. They meet on a regular basis to share good practice, talk about and find solutions to any challenges they are facing and to suggest new ways of doing things. They work hard, have fun and their views make a real difference to how young people leave care and move into their own homes.

Graeme Currie, Professor of Public Management said: “Young people leaving care face an extremely difficult transition and are often dealing with the trauma of a desperately challenging childhood.

On this basis we put in a bid to be an IMPACT Demonstrator Site, suggesting that we have Coventry and Fife LHPs as areas of focus to enable us to look at frameworks for both England and Scotland. Our bid was successful, and we look forward to starting this work in September which will run until September 2025.
