MCR House Project Carpet Cleaning Group Session!

This week's Group Session was a really competitive affair!

We divided the young people into two teams, using some carpet samples, and stained each carpet sample with some common stains that you would encounter in your own home (tomato ketchup, gravy, mascara, foundation, nail polish, and cola). We then gave the young people £5 for a budget to go to different shops with to buy cleaning supplies to combat the stains. 

Team 1 won the competition, as we found that Tesco's Oxycleaner (bought by Team 1) was incredibly effective at cleaning most of the stains, even after they had been left for a few hours to dry!

Young people tell us that the House Project approach helps significantly, but we should never underestimate the enormous challenges they face at such a critical time in their lives. This reality was brought home to us recently with Sue’s decision to swap her working life at NHP for retirement caring for her new granddaughter two days a week. Even though Sue is fully in control of this decision-making process - something our young people often are not - the transition has still been discombobulating; letting go of something she enjoys and that has defined her, and moving on to something that will be incredibly rewarding and joyous.
